The CrossFit Open is Here: SFH's Guide On How to Prep & Recover

Thursday, March 11th, marks the beginning of the CrossFit Open Season. This year the Open will be 3 weeks long uniting hundreds of thousands of athletes worldwide to compete in the world's largest participatory sporting event. Whether you are 14 or 65, competing from a gym or your home, with or without gear, anyone can participate.

It has been a tough year for many of us, and most of us have not had the training and preparation that we have become accustomed to. The CrossFit Open this year serves as an opportunity for the community to come together and support each other as they compete in different competitions. The Crossfit Open also provides opportunities for new and upcoming performance athletes to emerge in the Open space. It is a chance for us to test our skills, recognize areas of improvement, have fun, and perform the best we can.

We all approach the Open differently; some of us use it to PR, some of us use it as a benchmark, and some do it because our friends are. Whatever the reason you choose to participate, make sure you have the right equipment to take on the OPEN!

Before you compete

PUSH PRE-WORKOUT

The type of workouts in the CrossFit Open can be both physically and mentally challenging. SFH PUSH, our pre-workout, can be the boost you need to help you push through. A combination of beta-alanine, citrulline, caffeine and B Vitamins will give you the motivation and energy to start strong and BCAAs will help keep muscles from fatiguing and breaking down during longer workouts. Lastly, the added balanced electrolytes will help keep you hydrated throughout the workout.

FUEL WHEY PROTEIN

Not a traditional pre-workout consumer? Try SFH FUEL. SFH FUEL is part of our protein line. It combines our signature grass-fed whey protein with coconut milk powder and apple pectin to give you an extra boost of energy when you need it most. Our grass-fed whey from New Zealand cows help repair and build muscle tissue. Coconut milk powder contains naturally occurring MCTs, a clean source of energy and Apple Pectin is a natural source of fiber. This powerful combination helps sustain energy levels. It’s the perfect option when you don't want to eat a big meal before competing but need a little boost. Mix with cold brew or coffee for an extra kick!

Recover after you compete

RECOVER WHEY PROTEIN

After an intense workout, SFH has you covered with SFH RECOVER. Our post-workout protein is an obvious choice for all athletes, but especially master athletes (age 35+). SFH RECOVER is more than an average post-workout protein shake; it includes four supplementation packages for muscle building, joint health, heart, and energy restoration to improve recovery time between exercise periods.
In RECOVER, we have added leucine and creatine to accelerate the growth of new lean muscle. Fruitex-B® is clinically proven to help joint flexibility and comfort in as little as seven days. CoQ10 is a powerful antioxidant to support the strongest muscle in your body, your heart. Ribose is needed by our bodies to make ATP, the most basic energy form, while carnitine metabolizes fat to be burned as energy. This combination will help you recover on all fronts.

OMEGA-3 FISH OIL

Fight joint pain from inflammation with omega-3 fish oil.
The number one supplement we encourage everyone to purchase for general wellness. SFH Omega-3 oil is derived from wild-caught Alaskan Pollock from the Bering Sea. Fish Oil is a natural lubricant and can help with all the wear and tear from the grueling workouts, in particular with joint recovery. The perfect addition to any athlete’s daily routine! Our fish oil comes in a liquid form which also combines Vitamin D3 and a capsule form.

PLANT PROTEIN

If you are vegan or sensitive towards whey protein, a great alternative is SFH Plant Protein. SFH Plant Protein is a combination of pea protein, mushrooms, MCTs, and fiber. Our plant protein may help promote energy, strength, athletic recovery, and muscular development. It will give you the sustained energy to help push you through Open.
